Dear Michaelhouse eater
Hopefully you will have seen the exciting changes at our London café.
The Place Below - now Café Below - was my very first café and has now been going for twenty years. It's located in the crypt of St Mary-le-Bow church in Cheapside, more commonly known as Bow Bells.
I often want a really good-value place to eat and have a glass of wine in the City in the evening and up until now I haven't managed to find one. So I'm doing again what I first did twenty years ago: making The Place Below into the café that I'd like to have as my local eatery.
Not only have we changed the name to Café Below but we decided to start:
- serving great meat and fish in addition to our established vegetarian repertoire
- opening every weekday evening for drinks, nibbles and supper
- offering some great wines, beers and ciders

Café Below is a great location - a unique and intimate space in an area known mainly for corporate dreariness.
Although it's packed and frenetic at lunchtime, in the evening the Norman arches create a warm atmosphere that feels a million miles from the centre of London. It's the perfect place to meet over a glass of dry sherry and plate of chorizo, and whilst you're here, why not stay for a hearty three-course supper?
We hope to see you soon at Café Below!
